About · Aaron Herzberg
Thirty years in the courtroom. One client at a time.
I've spent my career in courtrooms and boardrooms — as a trial lawyer and as a business owner. This practice is what both were building toward: divorce and custody cases handled personally, start to finish, by the lawyer you actually hired.

Why one lawyer.
Early in my career I watched what happens inside leveraged law firms: the client meets the senior partner, but the case meets the associates, who handle nearly everything from there. The partner whose reputation earned the engagement is rarely in the file day to day, and the client usually discovers that at billing time. I built the opposite. Every client here works with me — on strategy, at mediation, in court — with a small team behind me when a matter calls for it, and a docket kept small enough to make that promise true. It isn't a marketing line; it is how the practice is organized: fewer matters, full presence, and the clients in front of me getting the lawyer they actually hired.
It suits people whose cases turn on judgment: business owners and executives, physicians and other professionals, the spouse who didn't run the finances, and parents who need the custody case taken as seriously as the money.
The record.
I was admitted in 1995 and spent the first seventeen years of my career as a founding partner of an Orange County, California divorce litigation firm that I co-founded and helped build to thirty attorneys and staff. There I tried the divorces of executives, entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and a few very well-known celebrities and public figures: business valuations, executive compensation, assets traced across borders, and the custody fights that arrived with them. Along the way I earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown, with distinction, which is why what a settlement is worth after tax is where I do some of my best work.
Seventy-plus bench trials have taught me what judges respond to and what they ignore. Decades of that work centered on the financial core of divorce — valuation disputes, forensic accounting, income determination, tracing — and just as many years on contested parental responsibilities and parenting time. For the families I represent, the money case and the children's case almost always arrive together, and I try both.
On the client's side of the table.
For the decade after that I sat where clients sit, as general counsel to a company in one of California's most heavily regulated industries, closing real estate and corporate deals and litigating the partnership and business disputes that came with them. I have founded, built, and sold companies, owned commercial and residential real estate through entities, and today manage a family office alongside this practice. When a case turns on cash flow, goodwill, retained earnings, or what an owner's income really is, I understand it the way you do — as an operator — and then present it the way a court needs to hear it. Most family lawyers learn business from expert reports. I learned it from payroll.
Denver, and the mountains.
I practice from Greenwood Village and serve clients across Denver, the south metro, the foothills, and Colorado's resort towns — in the Arapahoe, Douglas, Denver, Jefferson, and Boulder County courts most weeks. In Denver I'm building the professional and community relationships this practice runs on, including active involvement in the Jewish community. Away from the office you'll find me outdoors: in the mountains, on the water, or under it.

Engagement
Start with a confidential conversation.
A consultation is a scheduled working session — in person in Greenwood Village or by video — in which we go through your situation and I tell you what I would do. It is a paid meeting, not a free call and not a sales pitch; my assistant quotes the consultation fee when you schedule. There is no chatbot here: the contact form and the phone both reach my office, my assistant reviews every inquiry personally, and the meeting goes on my calendar. Please hold the confidential details until we have run a conflicts check.
