Divorce and custody counsel for Castle Pines.
Castle Pines divorces come in two shapes: a founder or executive with a company and a young family behind the gates, and a couple whose largest asset is the house they built there. Both are heard in Castle Rock, in a judicial district that did not exist two years ago.

Douglas County is now the 23rd Judicial District.
On January 14, 2025, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties left the 18th Judicial District and became the 23rd. Castle Pines cases are heard at the Douglas County Courthouse at 4000 Justice Way in Castle Rock, about ten minutes down I-25 — a young court with its own habits. The district has nine judges and six magistrates in all, and the domestic docket is carried by two judges and two magistrates, with a separate family court facilitator division that runs the initial status conference. That conference is where the clock starts: C.R.C.P. 16.2 disclosures are due within 42 days of service, and the earliest the court can enter a decree is 91 days after service, as the county’s own FAQ says. In my experience the magistrates handle temporary orders, mediation is ordered before contested hearings, and a contested permanent-orders hearing goes to a district judge unless both sides agree otherwise — and since January 2026 a party who disagrees with a magistrate has 28 days to ask the district judge to review it, with no appeal unless they do. A company, a house, and a schedule that has to work.
The gated neighborhoods of Castle Pines Village and the newer streets of the city share a profile: a household income that comes from equity as much as salary, a house that is the largest single asset, and children young enough that the parenting plan will be renegotiated more than once before they leave home. Colorado divides marital property equitably, values a business as of the hearing rather than the filing, and keeps separate property separate while treating its growth during the marriage as marital. The order of operations matters: value the company, decide who keeps the house and how it is bought out, and only then talk about maintenance, because each answer changes the next. Young families, and the first parenting order.
Most Castle Pines custody cases involve children under twelve, which means the plan will be modified as they grow and that the first order sets the pattern. Colorado’s best-interests factors include each parent’s past pattern of involvement and the proximity of the two homes; with Douglas County schools and activities clustered along I-25, a plan that keeps both parents within a short drive is usually achievable and usually what the court wants to see. For a parent whose work involves travel, I draft around the calendar rather than against it. More: Custody for Executives & Business Owners.
